Dan Andriano 9/11/15

Live Review

danandriano2012

It’s been three years since I last saw Dan Andriano perform live, since then he’s released a new album and pulled together a new band but to be honest not all that much has changed when it comes to his performance… In a good way! Intimate on stage ramblings, great responses to the audience and the level of performance to be expected from a well travelled musician.

Dan was joined by a full band line up, of which included Sam Russo on guitar, in order to perform his new, mostly electric album, Party Adjacent. He still had the band leave the stage now and then in order to play songs from his first album solo, such as Hurricane Season, It’s Gonna Rain all Day, Let Me In, Me and Denver and as always finished with From This Oil Can.

“I haven’t played this song in two years, which is never usually ends well, but fuck it”

What made the night special to me was the last minute addition of Of Peace, Quiet and Monsters to the set-list. With an extensive back log of songs, and most likely a majority of fans at his solo shows due to his career with Alkaline trio, I have no doubt that he may actually decide on the spot to play a certain song. When I saw his show in 2012 he played Burned is the House (Alkaline Trio), claiming he hadn’t played the song since he recorded it for the album.

He made mistakes in the song, he forgot the second line until someone shouted it out and further in he smirked as he made a mistake which only added to the relaxed atmosphere he had already established. The rest of the performance was perfect and had the audience captivated from start to finish, singing along but respecting the parts where it’s just better to just let the singer sing the part. The room was silent during From This Oil Can.

Regardless of legitimacy of the claims it still makes the show stand out, I don’t remember the other gigs I went too in 2012 but I can remember the oddball song he played and the speech he gave before it—and this is what makes Dan’s shows special.

This is what makes everyone of Dan’s shows special.

P.S I love you Dan
